A Serbian Film: The most controversial movie review till date

THE MOST DISTURBING FILM YET MOST BRILLIANT PIECE OF REVOLUTIONARY ART EVER. A DARK REPRESENTATION OF THE LIFE AND GOVERNMENT OF SERBIA. EXTREME CAUTION ADVISED.

Monkey rating: 7/10
(coz its too disturbing to give it an honest 8)

Genre: horror, mystery, thriller

Waddabout: A retired porn actor who is struggling to fend for his family is lured into an undisclosed contract to make a new movie that will pay him enough for a lifetime. Only to realize that the movie is not like anything he presumed and he must fight to protect not just himself but also his family and friends from this trap that is fast closing around him.

i say: i have never watched a movie so gruesomely disturbing and yet so artistically perfect at the same time. The only way to see this movie without getting into a moral dilemma is to remember that it is a revolutionary slap on the serbian government and how its treats its people. This movie is the angst of the people put into a film. It depicts how the people are fucked by its government (no pun intended there) and the helplessness of the people in such circumstances.
The acting, casting cinematography, music, script and art direction - and make up too are MIND BLOWING.
That is even more impressive when you consider the fact that this is a movie of a first time director. A feat almost impossible to achieve.

This movie is banned in various countries and that decision is quite controversial, but i must say that i approve of the ban to a certain extent. This movie has really disturbing effects in the mind though it is meant to portray the helplessness of the people of Serbia against its government through its story as a metaphor.

Even reviewing it on video was a difficult task for me. as you can see in the detailed video review below, my uncomfortable is evident - and that's a huge thing considering the fact that not many things have the capability to disturb/shock me:

Let Me In

Monkeyrating: 8/10

Genre: horror. romance. thriller.

As a guy who gets bored of horror movies, this is one truly genre redefining film that is a landmark in filmmaking. An intelligent horror film on the brilliantly scripted lines of 1408 and conjuring.

Waddaabout: a shy, bullied boy finds himself growing into a relationship with a new neighbour who keeps moving towns with a man who appears to be her father. An uncertain romance ensues that opens up a trail of bloodlust into his life.

I say: amazing story. Brilliant direction. Amazingggg performances. Brilliant sound and music. Totally blew away my mind unexpectedly!
I love the way the parasitic romance of a vampire is explored with human senses in the movie.

The sacrificial nature of love and the nature of habit balanced in a story that's supposed to scare you - but ends up making you feel the characters and their flurry of emotions. The little twists aided by the spectacular performances by all actors keep you gripped to the seat all throughout.

When 100 twilights are made, one such movie rises and redeems the little respect that the vampire genre has. Truly magnificent. A must add to your DVD collection.

Paranormal Activity 3

monkeyrating: 7/10

genre: horror

waddabout: set in 1988, the movie explores the origins of a haunting that continues for 3 decades. (prequel to part 1 and 2)

isay: though part 1 was a GREAT student/indie film but yet boring. part two just sucked and was a total waste - an absolute commercialised horror flick that lost its essence.
this was my review of PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 1&2. BUT: part 3 comes and delivers with a BANG! THIS is a HORROR film!

#note: despite the end not living up to the INTELLIGENT HORROR of the film, it is definitely one of my recommended must watch horror films to watch! intelligent, thought through, well made and scary.

monkeyrespect to: the writers and the director of this film! brilliant shit! especially OREN PELI - the man who has been holding this movie together since its inception in part 1. simple, effective film-making and a gripping story works its wonders here!
the child actress, chole csengery, is definitely a little bundle of talent to watch out for.

watch the trailer: though most of what you see in the trailer aint there in the film, it'll give you a soft preview of what to watch out for. but if you want to save the scares for later, i suggest you skip the trailer ;)

Top 10 Horror Films

Horror is a genre i don't enjoy much. unless to make of the people who get scared. and sometimes for a few laughs. but there are films that are commendable for their sound, cinematography, concept, puppetwork, techniques eat al and are seriously worth a watch. some, thankfully, are even actually scary.
So based on that, this is my list of the 10 horror films (not in sequential order) you must watch!

1408

As usual, i don't give a fuck what the critics say - to me, this is one of the most amazing psychologically sound horror flicks ever!
Intelligent, Conceptually brilliant, Stephen King's genius and amazing use of sound!

plot: John Cusack plays Mike Enslin (and plays him brilliantly well), a man who specializes in debunking paranormal occurrences checks into the fabled room 1408 in the Dolphin Hotel. Soon after settling in, he confronts genuine terror.

my verdict: LOVE IT. Gotta watch this one. preferably in a closed room, and alone!!!

BTW: this movie has 2 different endigs - one for screen and one for DVD. check out both endings if possible. I prefer the DARK one ;)

Paranormal Activity 1& 2

Go to sleep! if you have to watch it, use a PIRATED DVD! do NOT theatre this movie! yawnnnnnn!!!!

Waddabout: plus points coz its shot with one camera like a real life movie.
the movie is about paranormal activities in a house shot entirely via unmanned cameras.

Genre: Scary for sissies. Yawn time for others.

I say: watch for 5 minutes and go to sleep. alternately use it as your version of SCARY MOVIE FOR DUMMIES.
