A Serbian Film: The most controversial movie review till date

THE MOST DISTURBING FILM YET MOST BRILLIANT PIECE OF REVOLUTIONARY ART EVER. A DARK REPRESENTATION OF THE LIFE AND GOVERNMENT OF SERBIA. EXTREME CAUTION ADVISED.

Monkey rating: 7/10
(coz its too disturbing to give it an honest 8)

Genre: horror, mystery, thriller

Waddabout: A retired porn actor who is struggling to fend for his family is lured into an undisclosed contract to make a new movie that will pay him enough for a lifetime. Only to realize that the movie is not like anything he presumed and he must fight to protect not just himself but also his family and friends from this trap that is fast closing around him.

i say: i have never watched a movie so gruesomely disturbing and yet so artistically perfect at the same time. The only way to see this movie without getting into a moral dilemma is to remember that it is a revolutionary slap on the serbian government and how its treats its people. This movie is the angst of the people put into a film. It depicts how the people are fucked by its government (no pun intended there) and the helplessness of the people in such circumstances.
The acting, casting cinematography, music, script and art direction - and make up too are MIND BLOWING.
That is even more impressive when you consider the fact that this is a movie of a first time director. A feat almost impossible to achieve.

This movie is banned in various countries and that decision is quite controversial, but i must say that i approve of the ban to a certain extent. This movie has really disturbing effects in the mind though it is meant to portray the helplessness of the people of Serbia against its government through its story as a metaphor.

Even reviewing it on video was a difficult task for me. as you can see in the detailed video review below, my uncomfortable is evident - and that's a huge thing considering the fact that not many things have the capability to disturb/shock me:

Now You See Me

monkeyrating: 8/10

waddabout: an FBI agent and an Interpol Detective try chasing a group of 4 magicians brought together by an unknown entity to pull of heists during their live magic performances and distribute the money to the audiences.

monkeysays: definitely one of the best movies I have seen in a long long time. Brilliant performances, brilliant direction, stylishly executed heist film that is totally worth your money many times over! It definitely made its way up into my top 5 heist films of all time. Masterpiece of a movie!

monkeyrespect to: Director Louis Letterier - from transporter 1 and 2 for Now you see me, he has definitely gotten better and better. slick and fast as ever, he knows how to abracadabra his audiences!
The entire cast pull their own weight brilliantly. Simply amazing to just watch them perform - you believe each and every one of them!

TOTAL RECALL: THE ORIGINAL VS THE REMAKE

monkeyrating: 6/10
waddabout: A factory worker, Douglas Quaid, begins to suspect that he is a spy after visiting Rekall - a company that provides its clients with implanted fake memories of a life they would like to have led - goes wrong and he finds himself on the run.
isay: the action is splendid. the art direction of the sets is awesome. the costumes are bad. the screenplay is too verbose - having actors speakout all elements of the movie rather than have the audience WATCH and DISCOVER it. the cinematographer has gone a bit overboard with the camera flares but has managed some really insane, stunning scenes.
The movie all together lacks the drama that it should have packed. so in a sentence, the only major reason to watch the movie is the splendid action sequences - especially the scenes of
kate beckinsale.

monkeyrespectto: the chemistry that director len wiseman and action-actress kate beckinsale have. i dunno what it is, but the two seem to work really well together. maybe because they have only worked together for a long time now with the UNDERWORLD series.
NOW FOR THE ORIGINAL:
monkeyrating: 8/10
waddabout: When a man goes for virtual vacation memories of the planet Mars, an unexpected and harrowing series of events forces him to go to the planet for real, or does he?
isay: the costumes are legendary! the drama is brilliant. the sound and sfx were brilliant for its era (considering it was 1990). this movie is MUST WATCH!
monkeyrespectto: director paul verhoeven for putting together a movie that was truly in all senses way ahead of its times! and of course, ARNIE - for without his robotic timing that somehow weirdly adds to this movie, it probably wouldnt have been as awesome as it was!

the girl with the dragon tattoo

monkeyrating: 7/10
i would have given it an 8 but i cancelled one star for the movie being a serving bitch to commercialist shit like mc donalds and marlboro.

waddabout: a sharp but recently defamed journalist invstigates a murder that took place 20 years ago with the help of a talented but psychologically disturbed assistant.

isay: people need to stop cmparing a book to a movie - they are 2 different mediums. this movie is awesome and a must watch. yes, it has sneaked in advertisments that go against the nature of the characters in the book, but hey, its a movie. just watch it.
if you still want to insist on saying that the book is great and the movie sucks - you know what? go stick to reading and dont watch movies.

monkeyrespect to: STEIG LARSON, for a briliant book and incredible characters!
ROONEY MARA - the girl kicks asss in her performance! i could have never imagined her to fit this role - but she did - and HOW!
TRENT REZNOR - there's a reason why fincher always works with him - THE MAN, AND HIS MUSIC, IS AWESOME. you can feel him behind the scenes whispering to you what the feel of the scene is! its his beats that have to gripped to every scene in the movie.
and of course - master DAVID FINCHER - the man is incredible. i have seen the swedish version of the film - and it seems like a documentary compared to this one. fincher's touch is sheer adrenaline! he always only remakes books into movies, but that's his niche and he's got it bang on!

watch the trailer:
actualy, the first trailer - coz it is perfect - dosent tell you the story, but gives you the mood to be in -

Planet of the Apes (1968)

monkeyrating: 7/10
#Even though panda wrote this, one cannot miss the pun of this movie being rated by the monkey

genre: adventure drama mystery

waddabout: A team of astronauts travel ahead in time and crash land on a bizarre planet where speaking apes are the dominant species and man is the mute animal hunted and kept in cages!

isay: This is one of Charlton Heston’s most famous movies! the ending twist is EPIC! and his last lines in the movie have been voted as the 66th best movie quote ever!!! more than enough reasons to not miss out on this one!

pandarespect to: The makeup department deserves great respect for giving a decent monkey getup to all the actors. That is what sells the movie to the audience.
After the 2001 remake the monkey makeup might seem a bit lame to the younger viewers but back in the 60’s it was the best makeup job anyone had ever done. The script is tightly ploted, though the movie is slow at times lee way has to be given for its age. In the 60’s this was a very fast paced movie!

#The 2001 remake is much faster and tightly narrated since it’s from our era.

trivia note: Though it wasn’t initially planned The franchise was a HUGE success and has since sprouted 4 sequels, one remake (in 2001) and a Reboot (in 2011) which is yet to be released starring james franco and frieda pinto with the beast being played by andy “king kong/Gollum” serkis.

The Game

monkeyrating: 8/10

genre: Drama/Thriller

waddabout: A wealthy financier recieves a strange birthday gift from his free-spirited brother Conrad: a game that traps him in an intensely complicated struggle for survival!

i say: When it comes to thrillers, this movie stands in a league of its own. Twists and turns like you wouldn't belive. Grips you - holds you, involves you and twists your mind! MUST WATCH WITH ALL YOUR BRAINS ON BOARD!

monkeyrespect to: DAVID FINCHER, now very famous as the director of FIGHT CLUB - the man has his awesome realistic yet unbelieveable style down to a tee! the crispness and polish in each shot, no matter how grunge give the movie a look that's unmistakably FINCHER!

This one's an absolute ORIGINAL!
