Easing Open The Lockdown Intelligently Could Save Us All

India, or most countries, cannot survive another extended lockdown. So it would be a good idea to start working on easing open the economy while managing the crisis. An endless lockdown will only result in chaos for everybody.

Here are my two bits on how we could possibly work on opening up the economy through the Covid-19 crisis:

1. Educate the masses about self care, sanitation and precautionary measures.

2. Focus on fitness and nutrition majorly as the only thing currently proven to battle the disease is a robust body with a strong immune system.

3. Divide medical care into 3 segments - home care, clinical care and institutionalised care. With heavy focus on enabling and empowering home care.

4. Cycle the lockdown on a one month on one month off basis for 6 months so that at no time is the spread of the virus or care of the sick out of control without shutting down the economy.

5. Empower all establishments to manage their own sanitation and precautionary systems like
A) Enabling gyms to have a personal training only policy for 6 months
B) Allowing schools to set up a santitation capsule at the entry and allow only one book and pen (minimal items) per student - while allowing home schooling equally.
C) Running public transport through heavy sanitation systems and make the schedule stringent to avoid unnecessary travel
D) Severely subsidize electricity and internet to enable more efficient work from home systems for companies.

6. Instead of locking down everyone, prioritze safeguarding only the ones at HIGH RISK.
"Instead of trying to suppress the coronavirus across every section of society, you could instead aim to stop it completely for the most vulnerable."Prof Mark Woolhouse, from the University of Edinburgh, said: "Very crudely, for 80% of us who are not vulnerable this is a nasty virus, but it wouldn't overwhelm the healthcare system and it wouldn't lock down society.

We can definitely brainstorm on this one for more ideas. More ideas are always welcome.

Here's a simple infographic explaining the same:
